Adam - Jesus

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
(Romans 5:19)

Meditation

Adam disobeyed and ate the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Because of the sin he committed, we are all heirs to the sin nature. I was born with a propensity to do sinful things and, believe me, I have lived up to that sin nature. After I was saved, I thought I should blame him for everything I’ve ever done. However, I know if I had been Adam, I would have likely done the same thing. I’ve heard the question asked, if God is all-knowing and all-powerful, why didn’t he stop Satan from tempting Adam in the first place. That question has probably been asked since Abraham was alive, maybe before that. The short answer is, he could have. The long answer is, even if it wasn’t Adam and Eve, someone would have sinned, with or without Satan’s influence. The sin wasn’t eating a piece of fruit, the sin was disobedience.
On our own, we have no hope for anything past this short time we’re alive on earth. If we go to the grave still in our rebellion against God, our final destination will be the Lake of Fire. If we continue living a life filled with wickedness, eternity is going to be more terrible for us than we can even imagine. You may think, like I did at one time, that you’re not as bad as a lot of people. That might be a gainful idea if you were going to be judged against other people. However, you will be judged against the only perfect being in the universe. That’s a standard higher than you can match without submitting yourself to Jesus. He is the only one who can reach into the darkness you are in right now and bring you into the light of his truth.
One man, the first man, let his guard down and succumbed to the lies of Satan. Adam believed Satan when he told him he could be like God if he ate the fruit. Adam wanted to be like God – to know what God knows – but it was a lie. The consequence was the curse we all suffer under to this day. Adam disobeyed, giving us a sin nature. One man was obedient, obedient to the point of death. It took the obedience of Jesus to bring us a path to salvation and righteousness. When I reached out to Jesus he cured me of the curse of death, making me an heir with him to the Kingdom of God! He makes that same offer to you. All you have to do is accept it.

Daily Prayer

Heavenly Father you are the righteous one who gives us life. You are the author of our joy and we praise your name every day. We are the heirs of Adam’s sin until we give our hearts to Jesus. We are born into sin and we will die in our sins without the cleansing blood of Jesus. We thank you for his obedience and willingness to take our sins on his shoulders as he hung on the cross. We know we have no chance of being reconciled to you, Father, without his sacrifice. Help us to always be obedient to your will as we walk this earth. Give us the strength and courage to be a beacon of Jesus’ light in the dark world we live in. Show us how to never be tempted to shrink from the commandment to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with an unbelieving world. Always be with us in our interactions with unbelievers. Remind us we may be the only Jesus they ever see. We may be the only Bible some unbelievers ever read. Help us to always be like Jesus. It’s in his precious name, we pray. Amen!
