A Place Prepared For Us

However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
(1 Corinthians 2:9-10)

Meditation

I have a pretty good imagination, but I can’t fathom what’s in store for me when I go home to be with the Lord! My little mind cannot grasp or contemplate the glory of God and his marvelous heavenly provision. Another scripture passage describes our heavenly home as a mansion with many rooms. It’s absolutely assured our heavenly mansion will not be made of brick and mortar or wood frame. No matter what it’s made of in heaven, the grandest of earthly mansions will never stand up in comparison to what awaits us there. The hearts of man have longed to know what heaven is going to be like. What will we be doing there for eternity?
Even the Apostle John, who was called to heaven in the spirit, could only give us a limited description of what he ‘saw’. He gives us his perspective of what the throne of God looked like to him, but the rest of what heaven is like remains a mystery. It only seems logical there is more to heaven than the throne of God because there is so much multiplicity in the visible universe. Why would the spiritual realm be deficient in variety? Of course, my limited mind is only concerned with how much stimulating beauty and magnificence there will be for me to experience. I’m not even thinking about the grandeur of the holy God I will be worshiping.
Once I turned my life over to Christ and was baptized in the Spirit, I realized heaven is a place so beautiful, it defies earthly description. When we try to describe something to someone, we have to have some kind of common frame of reference we can each relate to. That’s the Apostle John’s predicament. He saw heaven in the spirit, but we did not, so we can’t relate. We have to realize we are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience. We are just temporary visitors to this planet. The seventy to one hundred years we’re alive are a drop in the bucket when compared to eternity. Only by accepting the free gift of salvation offered by Jesus will our eternity be spent in the splendor of God’s magnificence!

Prayer Time

Gracious God and Father, we are but blind and naked beggars before you. We cannot stand without your loving provision. You have eternity all planned out for those who are called to serve you. We thank you for loving us enough to give Jesus when we don’t deserve an instant of your consideration. We know that what awaits us in heaven cannot be understood by our limited imaginations. You have prepared paradise for us and we long to join you there. When our time comes to leave this world behind, help us to face that journey without fear. Help us to stay focused on who we are going to be with when we get to the other side. Take this mortal body and transform it into an immortal one. While we’re still here, give us the voice to share your love to a world that doesn’t know what real love is. We love you, Lord, and we pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen!
