All Creation Groans

For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
(Romans 8:22-23)

Meditation

Since the fall of Adam & Eve in the Garden there has been chaos in the heavens and here on the earth. Outer space is full of asteroids and comets speeding through the solar system, distant stars explode, and far off galaxies collide. Here on earth, we experience earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, firestorms…the items on list of the groaning of creation seems endless. We’ve had these natural disasters for ages, so why have our forebodings increased so much in recent decades? The frequency and ferocity of these natural disasters are growing by the day just like a woman’s labor pains start out slow and increase as she’s about to give birth.
The political left and the secular science community would have us believe the weather-related disasters are caused by man. They tell us we’re dumping too much carbon into the atmosphere and causing the planet to heat up. Even between the scientists, the debate continues as to whether the earth is getting warmer or not. For believers, there can be no debate as to the cause. The birth pangs of the Last Days are in full swing and there is nothing mankind can do to stop or delay it. Of course, just because God is orchestrating what’s happening, doesn’t mean we can stop taking care of the planet we live on. We are the stewards, not the owners of this world.
Our natural world is not the only thing to be affected. In the last forty to fifty years there has been a definite up-tick within the body of Christ wanting to know and talk more about the Last Days and what’s going to happen. We see what’s going on in this world, both natural and caused by the evil of men, and our spirit groans for Christ to come for us. However, we must temper our eagerness for Christ to return with patience. There is much work still to do for the kingdom. There are still billions of lost souls to bring to Jesus. He will return for us in the fullness of time and we will be redeemed from the ravages of our mortal bodies. As the sons and daughters of God, we will inherit the riches of heaven. Until then we must keep on telling all we meet about Jesus.

Prayer Time

Our Father in heaven, you are the creator and master of the universe and everything in it. After Adam’s sin in the Garden, chaos and corruption entered creation. Our lives are beset with natural and man-made disasters that seem to be getting worse and more frequent as time passes. Earthquakes are more frequent, stronger, and in more diverse places. Hurricanes and Typhoons ravage the tropics, taking many lives with them. Now, terrorism is replacing natural disasters in the forefront of our worries. With this constant angst comes the desire to know the spiritual reasons for what’s happening. Thank you for giving us the scriptures to search for these answers. We know you did not give us these prophesies to scare us, but to help us prepare to be ready for the return of Jesus. Please, Lord, keep us secure in the acquaintance of your love and the assurance of eternity to come. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen!
