A Lamp Unto My Feet

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
(Psalm 119:105)

Meditation

It’s painful for me to look back at my life before I gave my heart to Jesus Christ. I was stumbling through life with no purpose, other than trying to find happiness; and no direction, other than trying to make money. Between two failed marriages, I flailed around from one woman to another, looking for someone to fill the hole in my heart. I made one mistake after another in succeeding relationships, never finding that good fit. I finally remarried, but I eventually became disillusioned because that hole in my heart was still there.
Just as my second marriage was ending, when I was at a very low point in my life, Jesus pulled me up out of the darkness I was living in. He gave me a new heart that I have dedicated to his service. I have a new purpose for my life, that is to share his good news of salvation with everyone I can. Before Jesus saved me, my life was directionless, but always in darkness. I didn’t know there was anything better because I was consumed with myself and my pursuit of pleasure. Then, in the midst of my failure as a husband, the Holy Spirit spoke into my heart and Jesus saved my soul.
Shortly thereafter, I was given a Bible by my oldest daughter and I devoured it with a hunger I didn’t even realize I had. I couldn’t get enough, reading for long hours at a time, every day. Since I wasn’t working due to an injury, studying the scriptures became my vocation, consuming me for a full three years. I read through the Bible at least twice, maybe three times in those years, stopping several times for deeper study when the Spirit led me to. I went from a secular belief in our origins to understanding we were created by the hand of God in his image. I went from not knowing anything about the Trinity, to believing in it even though I don’t totally understand it. I went from a sci-fi fanatic to a totally sold out for Christ believer in the future End Times prophesies.
I don’t claim to be a biblical scholar by any means, but one thing I do know, the Word of God now lights my path. I try to follow the commands of my Savior as I walk through this life. I’m not blindly bouncing from one failed relationship to another anymore. The Lord has blessed me with a wonderful spouse. My life is no longer lived in darkness. I am living in the bright light of love from my God and my King. I fail in some way every day, but I know He forgives me and leads me back to righteousness.

Prayer Time

Heavenly Father, you are like the first fresh breeze of Spring. You make all things new for us, as you illuminate our make our way through this life. You are the cleansing water of baptism that washes us clean. You are a bright light in the darkness that leads us to a righteous path. We heed your command to refresh ourselves in your inspired Word. It’s only in your Word will we find the truth and light for our daily lives. Before we submit to the lordship of Christ, we stumble through life, falling from one sinful act to another. We are totally surrounded by spiritual darkness. We are totally unaware of the eternal consequences by living in that darkness. We need your Holy Spirit to guide us past the temptations this world offers. Help us to look to your Word for the inspiration and guidance we need to follow a righteous path. Lord you have made us for yourself and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you. God, you are the source of all things good, let the light of your face shine upon us. Please fill our hearts with greater and greater joy and peace as we seek an ever-closer relationship with you. In Jesus’ most precious name, we pray. Amen!
