Jesus Is The Light

Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
(John 8:12)

Meditation

The best thing about this time of year is, if you are already a believer then, your path is bright because Jesus is lighting your way. Without him, you walk in darkness even on the sunniest of days. It’s not a darkness that any natural or man-made light source can illuminate. It is a supernatural darkness, extinguishing the light of truth about your sins. That spiritual darkness is from the devil. He wants to keep you from seeing the light. He doesn’t care if you say you believe in God or not, so long as you don’t follow and serve him. Many will say they believe but their lives prove they do not know him or follow him. It’s not enough to believe in God. You must follow the One who died to save you.
What does it mean to be in spiritual darkness? It means you either cannot or will not see the truth because your own sinful desires keep you from the light of truth. Your earthly desires are more important to you than submitting yourself to a higher authority. Because you are in darkness, you want to believe anything that supports the lifestyle you’ve chosen. Even when you are exposed to the light, you insist on returning to the darkness. Hopefully, you’ll realize the devil has been lying to you before it’s too late. He makes your sinful desires seem acceptable, even normal, but of course, you were being lied to all along. It’s only when you have reached a low point that you realize Jesus holds the only truth that matters.
You may think you don’t need to give up your sinful lifestyle in order to be saved. If you think that, you are deluded. Submitting yourself to the Lord is required of everyone. Darkness holds us in bondage, but if we choose to follow Jesus, the chains of our slavery are broken, and are forgiven and forgotten by God. The shackles that bind every human being in a pit of despair and darkness are shattered. Then, we are bathed in the light of salvation and eternal life following our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus is truth and his light will show us the way to a righteous life. If you are burdened by sin, let Jesus shine his light on you and be made free! Let him pull you out of the darkness and make you a new creation!

Prayer Time

Father God, you are in control of all things. You are the Almighty King of creation. We give you all the praise, the honor, and the glory, for you alone are holy. Father, this is the time of year when your plan for our salvation is in the forefront of our thoughts. We thank you for loving us so much that you decided just the right time to put on flesh and walk among us. Jesus arrived as a helpless child, born under the law, as we all are. However, he came to save us from the condemnation of the law. What an unsaved person doesn’t understand is, they are condemned by the law whether they believe in you or not. No one can escape the consequences of their sins without calling of the name of Jesus. The glorious thing about your plan is, we’re not only redeemed from an eternity in hell because of our sins, we’re adopted as your sons and daughters. Thank you, Lord, for your mercy and grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen!
