He is the Christ

After this, many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. So, Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
(John 6:66-69)

Meditation

To those of you reading this who are followers [disciples] of Christ, have you ever considered this passage? What would happen if your faith was seriously challenged? I know my faith took a huge hit with the loss of someone I held dear. I was very mad at God at the time. However, as the days and weeks passed, I realized I had nowhere else to go. The thought of going back to the person I was before, was abhorrent to me. I couldn’t fathom trying to go forward with my life without the Holy Spirit guiding me. My only choice was remembering who saved me from the pit of hell. The only decision that made any sense was to continue to follow Jesus.
To those of you reading this who are not followers of Christ, do you understand the significance of Peter’s response? The twelve men who were left, were all religious men of the Jewish faith. They had grown up hearing the prophecies of the Messiah. Some of them had heard the words of John the Baptist who had been in the wilderness, preparing the way. Peter and the other disciples knew who Jesus was. Both from the words he spoke and how he spoke them with authority. Also, Christ’s miracles were a key part of why they put their belief in him. If the men who were with Jesus twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, sincerely believed he was the real deal, he must have been.
I pray that everyone reading these word, has already, or will soon come to faith in our Messiah and God, just as the Apostles did. He has the message of salvation, expressed in the words of scripture. If you do not yet believe in Jesus, it’s easy to get to know him simply by reading the Bible. If the words of scripture are hard for you to understand, find a Bible preaching and teaching church, and attend weekly. Once you know who Jesus is, you will have nowhere else to go either. He will lift you out of the depths of you sins and make you a whole new person. You will know he is the only one who can give you eternal life with him in heaven. Knowing Jesus means you will believe he is the Holy One of God, the Christ who came to save the world.

Prayer Time

Father God you are the Master of our lives and we give you praise and honor. We thank you for giving us a redeemer to save us from our bondage to sin and the second death. We know his words are true and we look no further than him for our salvation. Tune our hearts, Lord, to your frequency, so we’ll hear his call to action. Make plane what your will is in whatever life happens to throw at us. Where else could we turn if we began to think what Jesus did was a lie? Could we return to the kind of lives we had before? Would we want to slip back down into the pit of despair, where our minds were filled with darkness, and our hearts were made of stone? We know Christ to be your Son, the Holy One, just by our changed lives. There is no other name to call on who can save us. There is no living person, no drug, nor any other earthly distraction that can tear us away from your arms. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
