Greater Is He
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
(1 John 4:4)
Meditation
We don’t have to look very far to see a spirit of antichrist that permeates throughout our entire society today. It can be very discouraging to watch all the wickedness in the world that’s celebrated by our culture as heroic examples of the new norm. We wonder how our once great and moral society has fallen so far in such a short time. We don’t have to follow the crowd who are headed for destruction. Our path is clear; we know where we’re going. We aren’t going to fall into the immorality the unsaved are embracing because the Spirit that is in us is greater than the spirit of antichrist of the world.
Today, it’s a common occurrence for believers to be mocked and ridiculed for resisting what society is dishing out. We are called haters because we will not give into godlessness and share in their corruption. Believers have been charged by the government and fined a huge amount of money for not baking a cake. When we stand against the evil of abortion, we’re called misogynists. When we speak about the love of Jesus, we’re told to be quiet and keep our beliefs to ourselves. In our workplaces, you can advocate for any belief you have except faith in Jesus Christ.
As believers, we retreat at times when confronted about our faith in Jesus. When we do, we prove we don’t understand the power that our Savior holds. We may be meek in our own strength, but we are not alone. Satan will scare us, he’s a scary being, but he has infinitely less power than our Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord will guard our souls through any persecution. The people controlled by Satan can and will do horrific things. They may even take our earthly lives from us, but they cannot kill our souls. They remain safe in the bosom of our Lord.
It bothers us when Satan, the one who is in the world, wins the battle for the soul of a person we love. We can take heart, however, because we are indwelt by the most powerful force in the universe. The Holy Spirit is our strength and so we cannot stop trying to reach the lost. We who have been baptized in water and the Spirit have overcome this immoral world and do not live by the low standards it sets. We must always try to live by the highest of ideals because they are given to us by the timeless and inspired Word of God.
Prayer Time
Heavenly Father, we have you to look to as our example of righteousness. You are flawless and perfect in how you deal with us. Whenever we are far from you in our thoughts and actions, we quickly slip into our old wicked ways. If we are lax about coming to you each day in prayer and study, it’s easy to forget how to live righteously. Help us every day to remember to lift up our praises to you in prayer. Forgive us when we get a little bit lazy about studying your word. Thank you for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Without his guidance and strength, we would be at the mercy of the Lawless One. Lord, please give us a hunger for knowing what the scriptures have to say about how to remain in your righteous will. We know it contains your words of wisdom that we need to get through each day. We are sinners, Lord, and need your guidance and forgiveness when we fall. Bring us back to a righteous path and restore us to a right relationship with you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen!
