Jesus Is Watching

Meditation

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
(Proverbs 15:3)

There has never been anything to happen on the earth that God doesn’t know about. He sees all. Our hearts are filled with darkness and we cannot hide our wickedness from God. That goes for the believer as well as for the lost. We, who are saved, cheer when an evil doer gets his just reward, forgetting that God watches our sins also. I know I am no different from any unsaved person. I still sin, every single day. I don’t want to sin. I hate it when I do. I am ashamed every time I fail him. The difference between me and the unsaved is, I know I’m a sinner, in need the saving grace and mercy Jesus went to the cross to give me. Now I am covered by the blood he shed to save us all.
Sometimes we might get the notion in our heads, once we’re saved, God no longer bothers to watch what we do. Or, even more foolishly, that because we’re saved, we don’t ever sin anymore. We forget our little white lies are not secret from him. That swear word we uttered under our breath when we’re cut off in traffic, wasn’t heard by anyone but him. We allow unclean thoughts to come that push the Lord aside when our minds are idle. We ignore the poor, even though we have plenty to share, forgetting that God gave us all we have. We should try to remember that God is everywhere, so nothing we do is ever hidden from him. There is no such thing as a secret sin. God sees, hears, and knows all.
Each time we fall into unrighteousness, and we will, we should honestly humble ourselves, and ask for forgiveness. Yes, God is disappointed by our failures, but he also rejoices in our triumphs as well. He delights when we are victorious in the struggle to do what’s right. That should be our whole motivation; always striving to do what pleases our God! He will use the temptations to sin to test and measure our faithfulness. We often fail that test, but he is always faithful. If we are baptized by the Holy Spirit, he lives in our hearts. If we stop to think about that every time we’re about to slip and fall into sin, we won’t do it. I know, this being such a fast-passed life, it’s hard to take that moment to think on the Lord before we act. Fortunately for us, he is patient with us and faithful to forgive us when we seek his face.

Prayer Time

Heavenly Father your grace is upon us. You keep watch over all things. Thank you, Lord, for always guarding our souls from the designs of the devil. He is like a hungry lion, wanting to devour anyone who is not covered by the blood of Jesus. Father we want to always do good, not because of a desire for some kind of reward, but because it pleases you when we do. That is our goal, to always be a pleasing fragrance to you. Keep us from the temptation to judge others who are sinning. We are not their judges, nor are we without sin ourselves. We are no better than they are, and we sin every day. We fall on the promise of salvation by sharing in the righteousness of Christ. Please soften the hearts of the wicked and bring them into the light of your love. We are reminded that you are everywhere. There is no place we can hide our sins that you won’t know. Please forgive us when we become weak and sin because of an idle mind. Help us to keep our focus on Jesus as we walk the narrow path. We pray this in Jesus’ most precious name. Amen!
