From Darkness To Light

Meditation

For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.
(John 3:20)

A rapist doesn’t commit his crime in broad daylight, where everyone can see. No, they keep to the dark areas where no one can see what they’re going to do. A robber doesn’t break in when everyone is awake and watching. No, they wait for the cover of darkness, where they won’t be seen. Men and women who are having an adulterous affair don’t pursue each other out in the open, in the bright light of day. No, they meet in the dark recesses of a hotel room or bar. Someplace they won’t be seen or recognized. Everyone has done wicked sinful things in their lives, it’s our human nature. Most people are not rapists, robbers, or adulterers, thankfully, but we all have some deep, dark secret we don’t want to see come into the light.
Hopefully, a Christian will sincerely regret their failures, turn from their sins, and try not to commit the same ones again. There may be some of us, however, who may think they don’t do anything all that bad. If that’s true, why don’t they do those things out in the open? The trouble is, even in today’s Church, there are some who are choosing that which is evil and not what is good. For instance, there are ‘church going people’ who are having intimate sexual relations with someone outside the bounds of marriage. Most of the time, it’s in a premarital relationship, but there are some where it’s an adulterous one. They justify it and claim it’s okay because they really love the other person. After all, Christ was all about love and he wouldn’t want to get in the way of true love.
Of course, as believers in Jesus and the Word of God, then we should know the difference between what’s wicked and what’s good. In any discussion of the two, many don’t even consider adultery to be wicked and sinful anymore because it’s so common in today’s society. They claim it’s a gray area where what’s wrong for one person, might not be for another, and we’re not supposed to judge. The fact remains; the union between a man and a woman is sacred to God. Even if we’re not married but having sex outside of marriage we’re committing fornication. Ultimately, our sins will be exposed. If not here, while we’re alive on the earth, then when we’re standing before the Lord in judgment. Repent now and live a holy and righteous life.

Prayer Time

God in heaven you are the light that shines in our hearts. You took the cold, stony heart that beat in our chests, and made it new and full of your love. Father we ask you to keep the wickedness that used to dwell inside us from returning when we fall into weak moments. Keep our minds busy on the things of your kingdom. We know we can stay busy in prayer and study, but we should also be doing good works, to show our faith to unbelievers. We know that it’s an idle mind that invites the evil we’ll try to hide in darkness. When we find ourselves standing in the dark, help us to return to the light of your truth. There are many paths we can take that cause us to stray away from righteousness. Lord when we do wander away, please forgive us when we repent, and bring us back to the righteous path. When we see a brother or sister slipping into the darkness of sinful behavior, help us to lovingly point out their mistake, and help them to return to the light. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen!
