Jesus Is The Rock

He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.
(Psalm 62:2)

Before I was saved, I always thought that luck ruled the world. If you had good luck, you had everything you needed. Lucky people had money fall into their laps like water, no matter how good or bad they were at their profession. Of course, the only luck I had was mostly bad luck. There were a few times when I would “luck out” and something good would happen, but they were few and far between. Being a nonbeliever, I never thanked God for whatever good fortune landed in my lap. When my luck inevitably went south, I had nothing to fall back on. I didn’t realize there is no such thing as luck. I regularly found myself picking up the pieces because I had no foundation to rest on. Nothing to take refuge in.
Now Jesus is my rock; unmovable and unchanging. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. I never have to worry about him changing the guiding principles for living in righteousness. He has given me his Word as the blueprint for my life and all I have to do is live the way it says. Many men, over the centuries, have tried to interpret scripture to accommodate the whims of society or their own evil desires. They have led many astray, but God leads us back with the true and plain meaning of the words of scripture. It is in the Word of God where I find comfort and rest.
He is my fortress. That means he will guard my immortal soul, so I can spend eternity with him. I can never be shaken. That means Satan has no claim on me now and cannot steal me from our Lord. It’s impossible for me to comprehend the love our Lord and Savior has for me. He created the whole universe and everything in it. Why does he concern himself with me? I am a sinner and totally unworthy of his love and faithfulness. He would be justified to turn his back on me. Instead, he chose to die for me on the cross. He waited for most of my adult life for me to repent and turn to him. He is my refuge
I know I don’t deserve his mercy and grace, and no other human does either, but that’s the way it is with Jesus. He is good beyond our ability to understand. His love for us is never ending or changing. He stands as our protector as long as we put our trust in him. If you haven’t given your heart to him yet, he stands at the door to your heart, waiting for you to open up to him. His loving arms are wide open, and he wants to hold you. He has promised to come again to rule and reign, with us at his side! I’m convinced that day is coming very soon! Maranatha!

Father God, you are the wall around us, guarding us from the evil plans the devil has in mind for us. Thank you, Lord, for your protection and guidance. When we find ourselves in the midst of a trial, we know we can lean on Jesus. When the world is dumping problem after problem on our heads, Jesus is there to take our burdens. When the devil is tempting us with temporary but alluring earthly pleasure, we can take refuge in Jesus. We are safe in the stronghold of our Savior. As long as we stand on the rock of your Word, and follow the example of your Son, nothing can tear us away from you. Father help us to always follow in the footsteps of Jesus, who was born like one of us but who was fully God also. It is his sacrifice on the cross that purchased our salvation. It is his rise from the grave that makes him the first fruits of the resurrection. It will be him we see coming in the clouds with the heavenly host, to call us all to meet him in the air. In his name, we pray. Amen!
