Don't Be One of the Deceived

The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason, God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12)

Who is this “lawless one” mentioned in several places in scripture? He will be a human who is given extraordinary powers by Satan to do incredibly wicked things. He is more infamously known as the Antichrist. What is the “lie” that the Antichrist will tell the unbelieving, unsaved world? He will make many believe he is the returning messiah. Whether he tries to make people believe he is really Jesus or a different messiah, it doesn’t matter. He will be able to do many seemingly miraculous things and he will deceive most of the people of the world.
You might be saying to yourself, I will know if I'm being told a whopper of a lie. Let me ask you this, have you ever believed a politician when they promised you something and then didn't follow through? I know I have. The lie the lawless one will tell not only will be believable on it's own merit, it will have the added help of God's delusion that will seal the deal for you. You will fall for it, hook, line, and sinker. You won't even consider it's a lie because everyone, the whole world will believe it's true. However, the plain truth is, Satan is a liar and the father of lies. He is a talented deceiver, and he will take you to hell, if you let him.
Who are “those who are perishing?” Anyone who has not been saved by the grace and truth of Jesus Christ is perishing. Because the vast majority of the world’s people have not accepted the truth of Christ, when the Antichrist comes, God will give them a strong delusion to believe in the Antichrist. Why would God do that? Why would he make the unsaved people believe the lie? Because they have refused to believe that Jesus went to the cross and died for them their whole lives. They have been pleased to do evil and wicked things all their lives. Their time is up and now it’s too late. I don't understand why anyone would  want to risk hell because of their stubborn pride.
Everyone has the chance to believe the truth today. Jesus is the truth and he came the first time to be a sacrifice. He died a horrible death on the cross to pay for my sins and yours. He rose from the dead and sits at the right hand of the Father to prove who he is. When he returns, everything will be different. He will return in power to conquer the Antichrist, casting him into the Lake of Fire with the breath of his mouth. Don’t be one of the billions of people who will follow the Antichrist when he is cast into hell. Don’t get caught up in that lie. Your time is running out and this day is coming fast upon us. Turn your life over the Christ today and you will be safe for eternity.

Father God, you are the master of time for the whole universe. It’s with your timepiece that the past, present, and future are measured. In your perfect timing, this world and the people in it, will be judged and found wanting. We know, Lord, you do not want anyone to go to hell after this life. You created hell for Satan and his angels, not for mankind. However, you do not force anyone to follow Christ and not Satan. When we choose to follow Satan, our destiny is going to be an eternity in hell. Lord we pray for the people in our lives who do not know you, or the love of Jesus. We don’t want any that we love to fall prey to the deception that the lawless one will be offering. Soften their hard hearts and help them realize how much they need Christ. Break down their pride and give them a contrite heart about their past sins. Bring those who will listen to the words that we share of love and hope, into your fold. Thank you for that assurance of the blessed hope we have found in our relationship with Jesus Christ. It’s in his precious name, we pray. Amen!
