Find Your Refuge and Strength In Him

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
(Psalm 46:1-2)

Even though God promises believers are not meant for his wrath, (see 1 Thessalonians 5:9) we’re not immune from untimely misfortune. Terrible things happen all the time that could take my life. Some of them are caused by the evil that exists in men’s hearts, and others are caused by natural disasters. Wars, terrorist acts, rape, and murder are the products of evil people. They, along with the mistakenly labelled “acts of God” like, earthquakes, wildfires, tornados, and hurricanes are very much in the news today. All of them have been happening for centuries and will intensify as we get closer to our Lord’s return.
The unsaved, even though they may feel secure, are blind to the dangers circling them like a hungry lion. Our physical bodies are only a temporary repository of our immortal souls. Even though these man-made and natural disasters are very terrifying, if I have put trust in Jesus, I don’t have to fear like those with no hope. Of course, no one wants to stare a terrifying disaster or imminent death in the face, but with the indwelling Holy Spirit’s help, we can be assured of the final outcome.
No matter what challenges we are facing, the Lord is who we should take refuge in. He will give us strength to stand up to the onslaughts of this dangerous world we live in. If we rely on him, he will give us peace of mind when we feel vulnerable. We have been grafted into the family of the Father in heaven. We are his children. Like any good earthly father, he takes care of us and calms our fears. If we are in physical danger, even to the point of death, he will guard our souls. We have nothing to fear. Even though the world may be falling in all around us, God is still in control and our future is secure.
Stories abound of people who, in the midst of the storm, prayed to the Lord for strength and were granted a peaceful calm they could not achieve on their own. If God is your refuge, even if some disaster takes your lives, you will go to be with the Lord for eternity. The glorious thing is you don’t have to wait for some life-threatening danger to ask God for refuge and strength. He is eager to help us in any kind of trouble we face. If we give our worries to God, he will be faithful to take them away and replace them with peacefulness.

Heavenly Father, we love you and praise you for all you do for us. We submit ourselves to your will and bow to your power and authority. Give us peace, Lord, in these perilous times where trouble is around every corner. You are Almighty God and it’s your strength we rely on when the entire world seems to be losing their minds. We run to take refuge in you because only you can calm our fears. We look to you for guidance when we’re confronted by the plans of evil people. We ask for you to protect us and our loved ones when nature is throwing its worst at us. With the world becoming such a politically divided place, we pray for our leaders. Please, give them a steady nerve and wisdom to practice and know your will. We pray for the leaders of all nations, that they will seek your counsel and look for peace with their neighbors. Lord God, you are in ultimate control so, no matter what happens, we’re praying for your will to be done. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen!
