If You Ask, He Will Answer
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the
one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
(Matthew
7:7-8)
This
passage isn’t talking about a new car, fancy clothes, piles of money or
anything else material I don’t need. The things I need to live are few, the
things I want are many. I need shelter from the elements. I need clothing to
protect me from the cold. I need food and water to sustain me. Beyond those things,
everything else is a want, not a need. But those are the material things I need
in this world. What about my spiritual needs?
Throughout
my younger life, I was always searching for something, but I didn’t know what
it was. I thought I would find it at a party, or through more effort at work, or more quality
time with my family, but deep down, I was never satisfied. When I was at one of
the lowest points of my life, Jesus was there to help me, and my search was
finally over. He gave me the strength to go on and the realization that I
wasn’t alone. He helped me figure out the greatest of my needs is a relationship
with him.
If
you are at a point in your life where everything is going against you, look for
Jesus with an earnest heart and you will find him. It’s more correct to say, he will
find you. If you honestly seek him with a humble prayer, then the door to
paradise will be opened to you. Jesus will see you through your times of
trouble just like he has done for me. However, you have to be the one who
knocks on that door. He will not force himself on you. You must be the one who
seeks him.
Beyond the need for food to eat, clothes to wear, and
shelter for protection, Jesus offers you an eternity with him. Like any father
would, God wants to supply your needs, but he offers you so much more. If you
sincerely seek his will for your life and then follow his leading by the Holy
Spirit, he will bless you abundantly; now and forever more.
Lord God of heaven and earth, you are the only one we should seek. Not for fear of an eternity in hell, even though we should certainly fear that. Not for the assurance of eternity in heaven, though that is our promised reward. We should seek you, the King of Heaven, because you love us even though we are wretched, filthy sinners. You are always available to us if we humble ourselves and turn our lives over to the lordship of Jesus Christ. You are our provider, supplying all our needs. You never hide yourself from us. You are there waiting for us at every turn when we backslide. You are quick to forgive us when we repent and seek your face. You withhold your mercy and grace from no one who honestly wants a right relationship with you through Christ. Thank you for opening the door to your heart to us. Thank you for adopting us as your sons and daughters. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen!
