He Is The Strong Tower

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
(Proverbs 18:10)

Satan is a very powerful being and he prowls around looking for the weak to devour. I don’t have the power or strength to withstand his spiritual attack but calling on the name of Jesus is like building a fortress around me. He is my refuge. He protects me from the slings and arrows of Satan. There is no greater power in heaven or on earth, so why wouldn’t I flee to Jesus when I need him?
This world is full of dangerous, but seemingly attractive enticements that Satan offers up to me. I don’t have the willpower to resist the temptations of the devil on my own, yet just the mention of the name of the Son of God is all I need. The path of righteousness is very narrow and it’s difficult to follow on my own. I need Jesus every minute of every day to live a righteous life. There are times when I haven’t had the strength or the faith to follow the righteous path. When I repent, Jesus is always faithful to forgive and welcome me back.
Jesus is not just there in my times of trouble. He is always with me, so if I continue to call on his name, even if it’s just to say thank you, the devil will have no chance to get at me and the Lord will continue to bless me. Yes, Satan is powerful, but he is nothing more than a created being like I am. Satan does have supernatural powers I can only wonder at, but when compared with Jesus, his powers amount to nothing. If I don’t want to fall into temptation, then the refuge offered by Jesus is where I will run to.
If you are walking through life without the powerful protection of Jesus Christ, I urge you to consider him as your refuge. Even if you feel strong enough resist sinful temptations on your own, you undoubtedly have already failed. Even though you may be a great person otherwise, falling for Satan’s temptation is what will keep you from an eternity in heaven. The only hope you have, is to call on the name above all names, Jesus. He is waiting for you with his arms wide open.

Heavenly Father, you are the stronghold we run to in times of fear and trouble. You protect us from the dangers of the worldly temptations that Satan presents to us. Because we are weak and easily lead astray, we follow him instead of Jesus. We forget all we have to do is call on the name of Jesus and he will become our fortress. That’s all we have to know. We are safe in the bosom of your love. We can find temporary satisfaction in the carnal pleasures of this world, but they will always fade away with the dawn of a new day. You, oh God, are eternal and never leave us. We can count on you for our protection as well as our daily provision. We cannot count on friends or family because they will eventually let us down. We can count on you because of your promises to save us. We cannot count on ourselves because we are the ones we lie to most often. We can count on you because you cannot lie and have always told us the truth. We love you most for that. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
