Jesus Wants to Save You

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
(John 3:17)

Before I finally gave my life to Jesus I looked upon God as some kind of mean spirited, ultra-strict judge bent on taking away all my fun. If he wasn’t there to do that, then he was just there to send everyone to hell. Neither could be further from the truth! Of course, I was rebelling from everything I learned in church as a child. For me to even think this, I had to at least believe there was a God, even though I yelled loudly that I didn’t.
God sent his Son, Jesus, to shed his blood on the cross. His blood provides the ONLY path we can take to avoid the terrible fate of eternity in hell. I was choosing hell when I turned my back on Jesus and what he did for me out of pure love. He doesn’t want me or anyone else to go to that terrible place. He created hell for Satan and his demon angels, not for humans. It’s our choice, ultimately, if we end up there.
I used to joke about being in hell with all my friends, but if hell is a place of punishment, I don’t think we’re going to be having a good time. I didn’t realize it then but when I was deciding not to follow Jesus I was deciding to follow Satan. There are only two choices and God gives us the freedom to choose. God doesn’t want anyone to go to hell. He wants us all to join him in heaven for eternity.
God has given us an awesome “get out of jail, free” card. All we have to do is take it. I took it about twenty years ago and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I know he offers the same to you if you will accept it. No one has to go to hell because of something in their past. Jesus loves each of us the same, no matter what we’ve done. He wants to save you just like he saved me and countless millions of others. Johnathan Edwards is quoted as saying, “This world is all the HELL that a true Christian is ever to endure and is all the HEAVEN that unbelievers will ever enjoy.”

I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me would not remain in darkness.
(John 12:46)

Dear Lord, we raise you up and praise you for your holiness. You are good in every way, and we strive to live a life that is worthy of your love. However, we are creatures of wickedness, doing our evil deeds in the darkness, thinking you will not see. Thank you for shining the light of your goodness on our sin and shame. Thank you for washing us clean and covering us in your righteousness. It’s frightening for us to even think about returning to the darkness we once wallowed in. It’s the goodness and brightness of your being that draws us closer to you. Thank you for the sacrifice of the cross. We place our sins at the foot of the cross and ask for your forgiveness. Please continue to shine your light upon us. Light our path with the brightness of your love. Help us to shine your light to the unsaved people in our lives. Give us your voice to share the good news that darkness has been defeated. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen!
