Can't Stop Sharing Jesus

But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
(Acts 4:19-20)

Meditation

Many times, since accepting Christ, I have faced the decision to share my faith or to keep quiet. I confess, that I have shrunk from that opportunity and responsibility more often than I have not. I have, at times, been afraid of ridicule for sharing Jesus with others. I always want to tell them of the forgiveness offered by Jesus, but my fears take over and I retreat. I remember one time in particular. I was wearing a tee shirt emblazoned with the words, “Jesus – My Final Answer,” in the style of the television game show, “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” I walked into a room where a good friend was sitting. He looked at my shirt, started laughing, and mockingly asked me, “What does that mean?” Instead of sharing my faith with him, I chuckled and walked away. He passed away a few years later, and that memory haunts me.
We are all faced with the decision to share the gospel or do what men tell us to do. We live in a world today where we can lose our livelihood because of speaking about our faith to unbelieving co-workers. It’s not politically correct to tell people what real love is and why they need a savior. They want us to act like everyone else, to conform to their morality and their worldview. If we can’t do that then we’re supposed to shut up. Christ has claimed me from among men to be one of his and now I know the truth. He has brought me so far from where I was it’s incredible. I am so grateful for his love and mercy; why shouldn’t I be able to boldly share him with others.
Even if the course I’m called to take is hard, if I trust in the Lord, he will see me through. That’s very easy for me to say since I’m retired and don’t have to worry about losing my job for sharing my faith. It’s much harder to practice in an economy where jobs are so scarce. However, if you can’t tell co-workers about Jesus, you can show him to them by your actions. Be an example of what being a Christian is by being the best employee you can be. Always be on time, work hard and never cheat on your time sheet and your co-workers may ask you why. That’s your opportunity to tell them you’re a Christian and possibly much more.

Daily Prayer

Holy Father, you are our maker and our helper, who will never abandon us. Give us the wisdom and strength to never abandon you when we’re being taunted for believing in you. You know, Lord, we are apt to deny you just like Peter did when the going gets tough. Don’t let us listen to anyone who tells us not to share the gospel about Jesus. Help us to know when the proper time is, and then give us the words that will lead them to a relationship with you. Give us courage to boldly proclaim the good news of your kingdom. The place where we long to be. Free from the trouble and strife of this world. The moment we submitted our lives and hearts to Christ, we became citizens of heaven, where we’ll abide with you forever. We thank you, Jesus, for this hope we have for eternity. Our time here may she short on a scale with eternity, but it’s a critical time where we have to accept Christ for our place in heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
