Greater Is He

You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
(1 John 4:4)

Meditation

There are way too many pitfalls in life to list here, but they all lead us to destruction, and I have fallen into many of them. I used to follow along with whatever the crowd was doing, no matter what. Looking back now, I made some very regrettable mistakes. Society claims that sex is “free” with no emotional attachments. There’s an old song that had as part of it lyrics, “if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.” I'm ashamed to say, I fell for that lie hook, line, and sinker. There are many other things too embarrassing to admit. Satan sometimes uses my past to haunt me like a ghost, but Jesus has forgiven all of that.
I was redeemed from the bondage of sin when I submitted my life to Christ. I know the truth now. I know there is a better way to live. With the help of the Holy Spirit, I have overcome those lying spirits that would tell me the pleasures of sin have no consequence. Even knowing everything I know about Christ, I still slip and fall nearly every day. I’m like a little child trying to learn how to walk through this life from my Father. If I just listen to his still, small voice, the path is much straighter.
It sounds paradoxical to say that I’m an adult believer and follower of Jesus Christ and still yet a small child of faith but that’s how much higher he is than me. It may also sound hypocritical to say that I’m a Christian and yet I still sin everyday but regrettably, that’s how it is. Nevertheless, the power of his love for me is greater than any enticement Satan might offer me to return to my former way of life. I know I’m not perfect or where I want to be in my faith, but I’m a whole lot better than I used to be and God is still working on me.
Every time I fail the Lord, all I’m left with is guilt and shame but the love of my Father in heaven and the blood of his Son remove the stain of my shortcomings. I wake up every morning and re-commit myself to follow Jesus. With his everlasting grace I am able to start fresh every day. The supremacy of my Savior keeps me from falling back into the same pit of despair that he lifted me up out of. The Holy Spirit indwells me, and he is greater than all the sinful spirits trying to influence me. As long as I put my trust in the Lord every day, he gives me the victory over death and hell.

Daily Prayer

Father God search our hearts and discover how much we revere you! How you hold us enthralled at the realization of your loving grace. Search our hearts, Father, and know grateful we are for the cleansing blood of Jesus. Thank you, Father, for the grace you have showered on us, saving us from the destruction of our own doing. We are helpless infants compared to your towering intellect. You know all things, you hold all things together with a mere thought. We can only be in awe of your mighty power. You have given us the means to overcome the pitfalls of this world. Your inspired Word is our instruction manual and your love letter to us. Help us to always turn to the scriptures when we find ourselves at a crossroad. Our faith and trust are in you, and we know that we can do nothing without your guiding grace. Show us how to love our neighbors just as Jesus does. Give us the heart of a servant who cares for others before themselves. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen!
