Made In His Image

Meditation

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
(Genesis 1:26)

God made us in his image. Think about that for a minute. Every human being on earth is made in his image. Whether we’re black or white, red or yellow, we all resemble God in appearance. None of us are any better or look more like God than any other. That’s important because it means God loves us all, equally. He doesn’t love some people more because they have more or less melanin pigment in their skin than another people. Since the racial divide is a human construct, Christians are called to reject racism in all areas of life. God only sees the heart of a man or a woman, not the color of their skin.  God made us in his image however, we mostly behave like the opposite is true.
God gave us dominion, not ownership, over everything he created. That means we’re managers and not the owners of this planet and its resources. It also means, whether we like it or not, a forest must be thinned, herds must be culled, and farmlands must occasionally be left fallow to regain nutrients. In most cases, humans have done a terrible job as managers. The countryside in some parts of the world have been completely ruined by strip mining. The companies involved have no regard for the land once they’ve made their profits. When people totally deforest a mountainside for the lumber but don’t replant, they are not being good stewards. When a species of animal is hunted to the point of extinction, we are breaking covenant with the owner of all things, God.
When we don’t like something that scripture is telling us we ignore it or convince ourselves there is an interpretation that better fits our worldview. Some Christians will say the Creation account is a nice fairy tale, but evolution is what the world believes in. Many denominations have succumbed to the point they have embraced evolution, saying God used evolution to create us. By teaching and believing that, they are calling God a liar. Some people have created a god of their own liking. They create a god in their minds that doesn’t have any expectations for being a righteous follower of Jesus Christ. We should be getting down on our knees to thank our Creator, then stand and praise him for all he has done!

Prayer Time

Is there a God other than you, Father? Is there some other supernatural being who has the power and authority that you have? Of course, there is not, there are only false prophets and anti-Christs. There was no one else responsible for the creation of the heavens and earth than you. Thank you for the splendor and majesty of the world we live on and the heavens we can see. We have to contend with the false god of Darwinism and evolution. The lie, so tied to our societies’ worldview, that it’s illegal for teachers to mention Creationism in the public schools. Please, give us and our children the minds to discern the truth of how we came into existence and why we’re here. Never let us forget that our purpose is to share the good news of Jesus. Remind us, Lord, that we are only stewards of the natural resources of this world and not the owners. You have given us dominion, not to destroy and waste what we’re responsible for, but to protect and replenish for the use and pleasure of future generations. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
