Ask, Seek, Knock

Meditation

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
(Matthew 7:7-8)

Are you like I used to be, refusing to believe in God because I couldn’t see him? Are you unwilling to submit yourself to a higher power? Does the whole idea of Jesus dying on the cross and then coming back to life three days later seem unbelievable to you? Have you ever tried to find out if he’s real or not? Many go through life thinking they know for sure God is not real, but they’ve never done any real investigation. With even a slight but honest examination of what’s claimed in the gospels, they can find out the real truth.
I used to think I knew a lot about Christianity before I was saved. I was actually pretty cocky about it. I would challenge any Christian who tried to share the truth with me. I was contemptuous in my rebuttals. The truth is, I only knew, what I describe now as, ‘just enough to be dangerous.’ Not dangerous to the person I was dressing down, but dangerous to my own soul. I was on a headlong and prolonged journey the was going to end with my soul spending eternity in hell. I was just too foolish to find out if I was right or wrong.
If you honestly ask our Almighty God to reveal himself, he will do it. If you ask him to reveal the truth to you, he will. How do I even approach God if he is who you say he is, you ask? Simply talk to him. He will not deny anyone’s appeal, no matter what you’ve done in the past. He wants you to submit yourself to him; all of you, the bad along with the good. Don’t think you have to change yourself before you can seek him. He will cleanse you of all unrighteousness and make you a new creation!
However, if you just go through the motions without honestly seeking the truth you are wasting your time. He is always faithful and will not deny his mercy and grace to anyone. Don’t sit on the sidelines and wait for some miracle to make you believe. Miracles can sometimes be counterfeit and you will believe in something false. Also, don’t pretend to know the truth. There are plenty of people who call themselves believers who don’t ‘know’ the Lord. If you’re brave enough, really seek Him and his truth and it will be given to you.

Prayer Time

Heavenly Father when we look at the splendor of your creation and contemplate the power you possess, contained in a single thought. You have given us the air we breathe, the earth we walk on, and the universe we marvel at. Thank you, Lord, for those blessings and many more. You encourage us to ask for the desires of our hearts, and you are willing to give to us those things that are within your will. So, that means you will not answer our pleas with something that is harmful to our immortal souls. You always know what’s best for us. You knew that in the Garden when you warned Adam and Eve against eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. All we need to do is find our place in your will, Father, and you will bless us. When we seek your face, we will find you. When we knock at the door to knowledge and discernment of you and your Word, we will be granted access. Thank you for being a God who shows us his love the way you do. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
